Why Is Optofluidic Bioassay’s ELISA Plate Better Than Others?

May 15, 2018 Uncategorized

96-well microplates for ELISA have been around for decades. But what makes MicroFluere® 96-well plates better? The simple answer: a lot of things.

MicroFluere® 96-well plates revolutionize the ELISA space by allowing a faster ELISA, greater dynamic range, and the ability to conduct an assay with 80% less sample and reagents.

So, let’s look at the scientific and economic advantages our new plate affords the end user as a result of the breakthrough design using microfluidics.

Faster ELISA

Whether you prefer to work with pre-coated or blank plates, the MicroFluere® plate greatly reduces your total assay time (84% less time for blank, 83% less time for pre-coated). Imagine being able to finish an ELISA test in under an hour; or imagine coating a blank plate first thing in the morning and still finishing the assay before lunch.

How is this possible?

MicroFluere® 96-well microplates allow you to eliminate many steps from the protocol and drastically reduce incubation times. Refer to the table below to see how the time savings applies to both total assay time and the manual handling time of the researcher.

Total Assay Time (min)
MicroFluere® Traditional
Blank Plate 160 962
Pre-coated 59 332
Manual Handling (min)
MicroFluere® Traditional
Blank Plate 27 79
Pre-coated 19 52

Greater Dynamic Range

How would a 10X increase in dynamic range benefit your research? MicroFluere® 96-well microplates have been validated to show concentration curves from 6 pg/mL to 9600 pg/mL. The large improvement in dynamic range on the high end gives you confidence as you prepare your dilutions.

Have you ever had to repeat an assay with greater dilution because your signal counts were all too high? No one likes the extra work and cost associated with redoing an experiment; so, allow the greater dynamic range with MicroFluere® plates to help your lab avoid that.

Small Sample Size/Reagents

When you’re dealing with expensive reagents and/or experiments where only small sample quantities are available, size matters. MicroFluere® plates use 80% less reagents and sample, on average, than traditional ELISA plates. Instead of 100µL per well, MicroFluere® plates use 20µL per well. The economic advantages are huge—80% less of costly antibody pairs and reagents.

Aside from the cost savings, the smaller quantity requirements help your sample go farther. You may be able to run more assays from your limited sample and/or avoid dilutions that add potential errors to your assay.

MicroFluere™ Works With Your Existing Reader

Microfluere® 96-well microplates work with your existing reader. The plates are designed so that the microfluidic channel aligns with your reader’s detection field. The plates work with fluorescence and chemiluminescence detection modes.

Let’s Wrap This Up

When we talk with kit manufacturers and researchers, we hear a few common responses about how they would like to improve ELISA. We hear requests for faster ELISA, more sensitive and/or greater dynamic range ELISA, and assays that are geared for experiments where only limited amounts of sample are available.

MicroFluere® 96-well plates deliver on those requests. Now you can conduct ELISA tests faster (complete assay within 1 hour) and with less cost. If you have limited sample, the 20µL per well is a refreshing change.
